Attack on Titan Episode 14 Recap

Right off the bat, let’s start with some disclaimers. THIS IS NOT FOR CHILDREN, NOR THE SQUIMISH. I know, I know – you’re a paragon of steely resolve, your sinews are made from Wolverines cigar gristle and are Ford tough. Congratulations. HOWEVER, this is an anime that is brutal right out of the gate. That’s what makes it so interesting; this is a world where humanity is on its last leg and the audience is left on the edge of their seats hoping that SOMEBODY is going to survive.

Obviously major spoilers, we will be looking at the series in depth, poking at nooks and crannies and looking at characters and plot and why AoT has gained such insane popularity. There will be cursing, there will be blood. Some of the screen caps may be graphic (I will actually try to not and be too graphic with them, I don’t know who is looking at my blog).

Attack on Titan is a unique and phenomenal story which includes many elements; fantasy, mystery, politics, military campaigns, camaraderie, sacrifice and hope. If you can get past the brutal nature of the narrative its worth watching. All right, let’s get into it:

Attack on Titan Episode 14 recap: Still can’t look him in the eye/Counteroffensive Pt. 1

Weell, the cat’s out of the bag; Eren’s little ‘problem’ has now gone public, all the good it has done him. He’s cooling his heels in jail, and after a brief visit from Levi and Erwin, Levi has announced he accepts Eren’s application for the Scouting Regiment.

Maybe Eren should run (accept he’s literally tied to the bed). Doing his best impression of a Dakimakura (Japanese ‘love’ pillow).

Rumors are a-flyin’ and now that everybody knows Eren has the capability to turn into a Titan and fight on their behalf the Regiments are lining up to take a bite out him.

Well, this dude

Will be the judge of Eren’s fate, as now he has been brought to the courthouse to have judgment passed upon him.

Oh, snap Pixis and Erwin – the two brains of the whole goddamned series – are talking it out on the wall. Both want the survival of humanity but politics may get in the way.

Mikasa and Armin, as witnesses, are dragged to the courthouse as well.

All right Eren, it’s time.

Hanji is going to escort Eren to the courthouse, lucky him, if she doesn’t give him a heart attack first. Hanji is the best character and there’s –

MIKE!! That was his name!! Levi, Hanji, Erwin and MIKE. Jeez, who could blame me for forgetting, it’s a pretty commonplace name for an AoT character. Mike, who has a habit of smelling people that he meets. Takes all kinds, I guess.

Time for judgment!! Will Eren survive!!? Or will the political system be his downfall!?

The Military Regiment wants to dissect him while the Scouting Regiment wants to recruit him, to take back wall Maria. I’m leaning towards the Scouting Regiment, for a more long term sane plan.

Everybody starts arguing and the Military Police drags Eren and Mikasa’s name through the mud, digging up files stating that they were also 9 year old murderers (Yup, still freaky, but irrelevant)

Everyone is getting hysterical when Levi leaps nobly into the fray and –

Kicks ten kinds of shit out of Eren, who is tied to the ground.

Still not entirely certain what the point of that brutality was but he DOES bring up a good point. If Eren decides to go against them, or goes berserk, does anyone in that room stand a chance of taking him down like Levi does?

The answer to that is…no. Levi is inhumanly strong, and more than capable of taking down Titan Eren.

Buuuut he kicks him a few more times, just for the hell of it.

Erwin, that wily fox, rides along the shock of that statement and states, LET US TAKE HIM and we’ll take back wall Maria!

So, surprise! Eren is now officially part of the Scouting Regiment. The same regiment that has a 30% death rate sooo….congrats?
